It's quite interesting to see the pattern of business relationships over time. If you look back 40 years ago, people would have never dreamt of communicating with a business partner through the world wide web. However, the same format was used. What format? A social medium, except that their medium was through another physical being while the medium in the present day is through a machine. It is now more common to link with potential clients through Twitter or Facebook than it is to actually meet with them in person.

So what does this mean?

It means that outreaching is done through the vast networks of the digital cyberspace. It means that if you want to get ahead in the game of obtaining contacts and clients, you better conform to the times. It's time to digitize your means of connecting with other people and a good start is by building profiles through different websites. Not only Twitter and Facebook, but also considerable sites such as LinkedIn or more obscure sites such as Plaxo.

As the great American singer/songwriter Bob Dylan said, "The times, they are a changing."
